Band gap information extraction from materials science literature – a pilot study

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a preliminary work on extracting band gap information materials from academic papers. With increasing demand for renewable energy, will help material scientists design and implement novel photovoltaic (PV) cells. Design/methodology/approach authors collected 1.44 million titles abstracts scholarly articles related science, then filtered the collection 11,939 that potentially contain relevant about their values. ChemDataExtractor was extended extract PV information. Evaluation performed randomly sampled records 415 Findings findings study show current system able correctly 51.32% articles, with partially correct extraction 36.62% incorrect 12.04%. have also identified errors belonging three main categories pertaining chemical entity identification, interdependency resolution. Future focus addressing these improve performance system. Originality/value did not find any literature date text using automated methods. This unique original.
